To every single Harry Potter fan, the news about a brand new Harry’s story couldn’t be more exciting! Everybody was dying to go to London watch the play, to buy the script as soon as possible, to find out some - little - spoilers. But as people got the chance to really read/watch the story, many critics were made. At first I though those critics were made by some very unappeasable people. That, until I got the script.
As a big Harry Potter fan, I couldn’t wait to read the “new book”, so ass soon as I had the chance I began the “massacre”. I was already ready to a different writing style, since it don’t just has a different author, but is also written as a scrypt and not a narrative. But it was much worse than that. Because of that, there are 7 reasons why Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is nothing but a poorly written fanfic:
- They totally ignore Ted Lupin’s existence
For those who don’t know, the story starts where the last real book ended: Alvo Severo Potter’s first year of school, at the trainstation. At the last book epilogue, they mention Harry Potter’s godson and Remo Lupin’s son - Ted Lupin - and the fact that he is dating one of the Weasleys daughter.
When we read the 8th story, we expect, at least on some point, that we will learn more about him and his relationship. But there is NOTHING.
- The Trolley witch’s job is actually to prevent students to get out the train, she becomes a monster as the kids try to run away and throw her desserts on them, and then they explode like bombs
WHAT???????
Yeah, that’s right, you read it correctly.
When Alvo and his best friend decide to get out of Hogwarts train on a mission, the lady whom sell the candies go after them. Her hands, her fingers and her nails increase size and become huge, trying to reach the kids. SHe also throw some of her pies as bombs - how they don’t explode on kids mouths??????
And she also told them Sirius Black and the Weasleys twins tried to run away before but she prevented them to do so, right before Alvo and Escórpio did it - yeah, right… the guy who escaped from Azkaban had a harder time to escape from the train then two very fool boys.
- A bookshelf eats the kids
While they are trying to find a book in which inside there is a time-turner, the bookshelf eat the kids and some books bite them.
I believe it is possible I i didn’t get it right…
- The time-turner and the time travel works in a very different way
In the new story, the time-turner give you only five minutes in the past. While in the original serie there is no time limiting.
In the new story, if you change something in the past, it affects the future. While in the original serie the destiny has already been “written”, and then the time-travel people’s actions do not affect the future at all, they are part of it, as if there is no possible parallel universe where their time travel didn’t happen.
- Rony is kind of a home-stay dad
Nothing against home-stay parents. It’s just that after saving the wizard world from Voldemort it’s hard to picture something less than great in the trio’s future.
- Harry has a terrible relationship with his second son
They fight much about the most absurd things. At some point Harry even says that he wishes Alvo wasn’t his son. Even though he regretted it at the same moment, it is hard to the people who knows Harry’s personality to imagine that he would say such a thing. Also, after everything Harry have been trough at his aunt’s house, he deserved better.
- Escórpio Malfoy is in love with Rosa Granger-Weasley
That wouldn’t be a problem at all if there wasn’t for the most romantic atmosphere between Alvo and Escórpio. I believe that in the beginning the writers intended to make them a couple, but were too scared of the repercussion. It made me sad, they would have been great.
